My lovely mother-in-law came to visit and we showed her the sights! Here's a Kodak Colorplus 200 just for something a bit predictable but really quite lovely. If I do say so myself.
The whole roll #1 can be found here (where you can read about the origins of this project). Other “Whole Rolls” are here. I’ve put the details of the film stock, camera dev and scanning under the images so those who don’t care don’t have to read about it.
I have been falling in love with Kodak Colorplus 200 because of its price and flexibility. Here’s a roll from my mother-in-law’s visit in April. We did lots of touristy things and some other things.
I had forgotten how cold it gets in Australian houses, and am writing this with knitted woollen wristwarmers on my poor cold fingers. I’ve just attended my first of four darkroom printing classes for TAFE and am feeling very accomplished and inspired.
During the day, I gather wonderful and important thoughts in my little noggin, about which I plan to write interesting things. Then I forget them or it feels too hard. Today, for example, I was going to write about adding friction back into everyday life in order to think, feel and enjoy more. Because I added so much friction into my life today, I will have to let the thoughts stew.
What do you do that adds valuable friction?

A lovely tree in Copeland, NSW.
A tree and Elsie, double exposure.
Rocks in Copeland that struck me as being reminiscent of temples in Lara Croft video games.
Some more.
Dripping rocks gleaming in Copeland.
I climbed down to get a photo of the reflections and I’m not thrilled with the results.
But I do like this. From outside Water Gums Retreat, my family house in the bush in Barrington.
In order to entice the children outside into the sunshine, I made them a little scavenger hunt list of things to find. It did start a few fights along the lines of “Mamma, why did you write cicada shells if you don’t even know for sure there are any this month???” but there were cicada shells and nobody was injured. This photo shows their grandmothers trying to help them with the list.
A grandma looking out over the river.
Bushland near the river. This is way too sharp for my liking. I guess around f16.
I adore this photo and plan to print it big. (I have these plans but we shall see.)
BBQ lunch.
Ah, I see now it was pizza and BBQ lunch.
I have always loved these three trees that stand by the road on the way to town from our place.
And this view.
And this view.
And this view.
I’m so grateful he lets me take these photos.
I love this one.
Helene being attacked by children.
And giving as good as she gets. Direct flash on these.
And Otto has an apple sticker on his head, yes.
Taken using bulb in the backyard. Photographed for this month’s Memory Cult project, Dark Matter.
As was this one. Hard to focus while holding a phone torch under your own chin while you simultaneously cradle mandarine for no reason and a camera.
Dark matter flowers at night with phone torch.
Kangaroos at Wyee which we searched out for Helene’s Australian bingo card.
Love the color so much! Will have to try this stock out. In terms of friction, absolutely agree! My constitution feels dangerously good in routine. It’s work to convince my brain to say yes to friction, but when I do it definitely adds so much depth to the everyday. I really love the sink and the husband in bed photos. So painterly!
